Legacy of Service

     Robert V. Hampson was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on October 7, 1868, in Perry Lodge No. 185 in Salem, Ohio. Robert Hampson sat in the East as Worshipful Master of Perry Lodge for four years - 1872, 1873, 1878, and 1880 - and later served as the Lodge Treasurer.

     He received his York Rite Degrees in Salem Chapter No. 94 on May 20, 1869, where he served as High Priest from 1871 - 1885, and in Alliance Council No. 44 on December 28, 1869, before the name was changed to Omega Council No. 44 where he served as Thrice Illustrious Master from 1892 - 1894. He became a Knight Templar at the Massillon Commandery No. 4 on May 1, 1873. He served as Eminent Commander by both appointment and election from 1886 - 1889 of that Commandery before later coming to Salem Commandery No. 42. He also served as Treasurer for Chapter Council and Commandery.

     Worshipful Brother Hampson went through his Scottish Rite degrees at the Valley of Cincinatti. He was honored with the 33rd Degree on September 15, 1885. As of 1923, he had become the only 33rd Degree Mason living in Salem, Ohio.

     Hampson was honored with multiple positions in Grand Bodies in the State of Ohio. He served as Grand Treasurer for the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio for 24 years from 1884 until his death. In 1897 he served as the Eminent Grand Commander of the Grand Commandery Knights Templar of Ohio. From 1906 - 1907 he served as Grand Treasurer for the Grand Council of Royal and Select Masons of Ohio.
